Your first homemade pizza, in six levels
Updated
Making pizza at home is mostly waiting. The hands-on part is short, and each step is simple once you’ve done it once. Our Make Pizza flow splits it into six levels, each with a checklist of what you need.
Level 1: Gather ingredients
Pick a flour (00 for Neapolitan, bread flour for New York style), whole canned tomatoes for the sauce, and fresh mozzarella, basil and olive oil for topping. Open level 1.
Level 2: Mix the dough
Weigh everything on a scale. The dough calculator works out flour, water, salt and yeast for any number of pizzas. Open level 2.
Level 3: Proof the dough
Divide the dough into balls and let them rise slowly in the fridge for 24–72 hours. Open level 3.
Level 4: Stretch & top
Press from the centre out, leave a rim, and top lightly. Open level 4.
Level 5: Bake
Preheat fully. A pizza oven bakes in 60–90 seconds; a stone or steel in a home oven needs 45–60 minutes of preheating. Not sure which oven? Try the Oven Finder. Open level 5.
Level 6: Slice & share
Rest the pizza for a minute, slice, and pick the style you made to collect its Pizza Passport stamp. Open level 6.
